Tourism and Hotel Management

In Istanbul Kültür University Program of Tourism and Hotel Management, the universal principles of science are applied in accordance with the European Union and Higher Education sufficiency framework, professional and technological developments and the relevant legislation provisions of higher education institutions. While determining the vocational courses, modules and elective courses applied in the program, sector demands, and regional needs, conditions of the educational institution and student orientations and demands are taken into consideration. The content and duration of courses are planned in accordance with qualification table, course information forms, module information forms and with the guidelines prevalent in the process analysis; and the courses which are a part of the Human Resources Development through Vocational Education Development Project (IKMEP), carried out by MEB Projects Coordination Center in a coordinated manner with YÖK, are given in the form of technical and practical lessons.

The education period of the Program of Tourism and Hotel Management is 2 years in total. The instruction language of the program is Turkish. English preparatory education varies depending on student’s demand. Exam and placement procedures related to external transfer of successful students who graduated from IKU Vocational Schools Programs to formal education undergraduate programs are carried out by ÖSYM. In addition, there is a Workplace Practices course as a part of the compulsory internship application of the program. Compulsory internship covers 60 working days and will prove to be very useful for students to get to know working life, to learn the profession with practicing the job and to get to know the sector they will work in.

Our graduates, who want to continue their education abroad can participate in undergraduate completion programs by studying their 3rd and 4th year courses abroad. In addition, students have the opportunity to complete their undergraduate studies and internships abroad through Erasmus.

Program of Tourism and Hotel Management is a four-semester associate degree program that aims to through its education produce professionals who have the broad perspective required by the tourism industry, who can represent and promote their country well, who have a good grasp of the concepts required by today’s world in the fields of tourism and culture, who can follow the developments and apply them in their own subject area.

In the Tourism and Hotel Management Program of Istanbul Kültür University, taking into account the international nature of the subject, it was deemed appropriate that the language of instruction should be Turkish, with an emphasis on English. Those who do not have sufficient knowledge of English or who have difficulty expressing their ideas in English have the opportunity to attend a preparatory school for one year. 
With the Istanbul Kültür University Tourism and Hotel Management Program, students are educated to be individuals who can think adequately, scientifically and rationally at the international level. Participation in courses and practices is mandatory in the program. Students must participate in at least 70% of these activities. 
The External Transfer Exam (DGS) for successful students who graduated from IKU Vocational Schools Programs to vertically transfer to formal education undergraduate programs is carried out by ÖSYM. Graduates of IKU Tourism and Hotel Management Program can be employed in touristic enterprises such as hotels and holiday villages, as well as in tourism information offices, travel agencies and tour operator offices.

IKU Tourism and Hotel Management Program has 50% and Full Scholarship quota options. In addition to ÖSYM scholarships, there are also university high achievement scholarships and monetary aid scholarships that we give to our successful students.
 

The primary purpose of the Tourism and Hotel Management Program is to educate people who have the broad perspective that the tourism sector needs, who are professional, qualified, cultured, able to represent and promote the country in a good way, who master the concepts required in tourism and culture areas today and who can follow developments and implement them in their own subject area. The tourism sector, which is the fastest growing and developing sector in Turkey within the globalization process, requires a more professional management approach and managers in all sub-sectors that constitute its makeup. Accommodation and travel enterprises, which increase in number every day in parallel with the increasing number of tourists, need qualified staff members, top executives and junior officers. In line with these needs, the aim is to train leading managers who are open to developments in related sectors with analytical, technical and managerial skills, and a flexible and global perspective.

The İKÜ Tourism and Hotel Management Graduates assume the title of “Tourism Professional.” The tourism professional assists the tourism manager in determining the needs of customers in touristic enterprises and making the necessary arrangements to meet those needs. They can work in “Senior and Mid-Level Manager” positions in hotels, resorts, food and beverage businesses, airline companies, various transportation companies, ministries of tourism, congress and conference centers, tourism information centers which offer tourism services in line with their success.
