Gözde KuzuThe phenomenon of change caused by globalization led to competition among institutions and brought about the need for differentiation. Innovation, R&D and technology studies that came with the change supported differentiation and, therefore, importance of consumer expectations led to new management mentalities. With the institutionalization competition in companies, reputation and image works accelerated; the media and advertising sector took new shapes.

In the information age in which all these transformations are experienced, the public relations profession has taken its place among important occupations. Providing system functioning and healthy information flow in the company, eliminating the problems in the system, being the leading actor in times of crisis, enlightening and guiding the management team, supporting the participation and motivation of all the personnel, providing and maintaining press-media relations, being a part of advertising activities, impacting the masses with social responsibility campaigns, analyzing the target audience, fulfilling the expectations of people, listening to the complaints and producing solutions, using the body language right with meta-communication and consulting the internal and external customers are the matters that a public relations expert deals with. Being present in all sectors that globalization affects, rather than only one sector like other professions, public relations and publicity manages to understand and be the voice of the public through the codes of ethics, such as openness, honesty, transparency and reliability.

We aim to raise up manager candidates, equip them with knowledge that meets the demands of the time, strengthen their professional knowledge, as well as their intellectual knowledge, and graduate PR experts that are solution-oriented in every area, who have strong positive communication, self-awareness, who can identify their target group, understand the significance of team work, who know the professional terminology, and who can use the programs required by the profession, so that we can develop a professional viewpoint from an international perspective, not just on a national level.

Not only can graduates work in public relations and publicity departments, but they can also work in fields, such as advertising, marketing, press, media, digital media, human resources, customer relations, and corporate communications. Public relations and publicity program students, who will be able to work in the press and public relations departments in public institutions and all institutional firms in the private sector, have many advantages in finding jobs when they begin their career.

The objective of the İKÜ Public Relations and Publicity Program is to raise up qualified and well-equipped professionals with ethical values who can carry out communication studies in light of scientific methods.
