An e-seminar titled "Choosing the Right Career and Next Generation Competencies" was held within the scope of the webinar series "Job Belongs to knower of it: Entrepreneurship Models" organized by Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School. The guest of the webinar series which is organized in order to gain different perspectives to the participants with the experiences of people who have achieved success in their sectors and to increase their level of awareness moderated by Lecturer A. Berrak Köten, Lecturer Dr. Barış Safran and Lecturer Burak Öçlü, was Turkey’s one of the most effective human resource management professional YMA Platform Founder & Leadership and Career Development Consultant Yasemin Merih Alparslan.
Yasemin Merih Alparslan made a cross-generational comparison in terms of business life and career and said that the previous generation mostly started at the age of 20 and retired by working in the same workplace for about 18 years. She explained that this situation is very different in the new generation by explaining various examples and their reasons. Alparslan stated that the reflection of medical inventions to the pharmaceutical industry takes a long time due to tests and permits, and that more new drugs will be released in the coming years compared to the past, and this momentum will continue, and that the big data applications that seriously affect all sectors also affect medicine. Stating that genome sequencing, filtering of possible problems, big data applications in early diagnosis and treatment will make a serious contribution, Yasemin Merih Alparslan emphasized that business life will change in this context with the prolongation of human life. Yasemin Merih Alparslan drew attention to the fact that the most money is spent on researches in the world, in the field of medicine, that the total resource spent on medical research in the last 20 years has exceeded 1 trillion dollars and these expenditures continue to increase.
He stated that China, which is rapidly enriching and aiming to be an important player in every field, has entered the field of medical research and application very ambitiously and they are planning to spend 300 billion dollars for the newly established "China Medical City". She emphasized that thanks to the combination of technologies, 3D organ printing is no longer a dream, awareness of healthy life has increased in the society and significant success has been achieved especially in the fight against obesity and smoking. Screening and diagnostic technologies are also developing rapidly, for example; She stated that now, for 99 dollars, we can have genetic testing and learn in advance which diseases we are likely to have in our old age. Stating that organic organ production initiatives in animals and laboratories have yielded successful results and organ transplants have increased, Alparslan said that wiki-medicine, tele-medicine, medical tourism applications are becoming widespread thanks to the rapidly developing and spreading internet. She pointed out that people can find faster, cheaper and more effective solutions to medical problems.
Alparslan also shared her predictions that change is inevitable in line with these developments and how this change will affect the pension system. Alparslan said, "Currently, the developed countries of the world are talking about bringing the retirement age from 65 to 70. The projections are that the retirement age will be 75 in the 2050-2070 range. In other words, a 50-year working life is waiting for us."
